The wine is named ‘The Specialist’ and is an appropriate name given the care and technique that went into making this wine. It’s not out of place in a tasting amongst the icon Margaret River Chardonnay’s and is a full throttle representation of the region.

The wine was produced from select parcels of the Mendoza clone of Chardonnay, it was fermented in new French oak barrels and aged on lees for 10 months with occasional lees stirring and malolactic fermentation not encouraged.

A lightly golden yellow in the glass, the nose has a heady mix of creamy stone fruits, fig and all the trappings of flinty cashew notes that come from time in new oak and barrel fermentation. There is an underlying almond meal character that goes up against a grapefruit like acidity with an ever present opulence from both the spicy oak and developed leesy characters. The finish is drying and is a sign that the wine is still tightly coiled and will develop even further over the next decade.

This may be a polarising style, but it exudes class.
