2008 Colonial Estate Alexander Liang Grenache
Wine Rating
89
The wine has a medium red hue, moving to a lighter red around the rim of the glass.
As with many, if not all the Colonial Estate reds, the most obvious element on the nose is the rich, overt French oak, the 08 Grenache combines these rich oak influences with dark cherry fruit.
The palate has good depth, but is uncomplicated in terms of flavours. There are primary characters of plum and cherry, but the fruit gets lost in the mid to back palate due to the highly aromatic and aggressive oak, this for some will be a wonderful thing, but others render the wine 'one dimensional'
The finish has fine tannins, considerable length and warm mouth feel.
