2018 Yangarra High Sands Grenache
Wine Rating

An icon of Australian Grenache that was picked from vines planted in '46, long maceration on skins and only free run juice pressed off into old oak and ceramic egg for ageing on lees.

A youthful light red with purple hues, the aromatics are outstanding with dark cherry awash with floral spice and a backdrop of rhubarb.

There is a litheness to the wine, with a steady build of fruit that is etched with undergrowth sitting alongside beautifully textured tannins. Fruit spans wild cherry to plum with a true peacocks tail in terms of flavour that is more akin to Pinot Noir than Grenache. The finish is fruit driven with piercing cherry and cranberry, a weave of spice completes a very special wine, with a long future ahead.
