2011 d'Arenberg Ironstone Pressings
Wine Rating
91
It is universally accepted that 2011 was a tough year, however McLaren Vale seemed to have held up well relative to other South East Australian regions. The Ironstone Pressings is a wine that consistently evolves and shows more over time, with the 2011 no different, in fact based on the structure of the wine it may be one for the long term.
The nose has savoury flare of leather and pencil shavings alongside blackberry fruit. The palate has a fine but persistent weave of tannins that is proportional to the dusty dark fruits. Oak gives additional weight and vanillin lift, the finish is long and dark fruited.
