2016 Sidewood Estate 777 Pinot Noir

The wine is produced from only the 777 Clone of Pinot Noir, with 15% whole bunches included in the ferment and the wine aged in older French oak.

A pretty light red in the glass, the nose is steeped in rhubarb and earth, cherry fruit has a sour edge with a touch of cured meat.

This is a wine that really grows on your, the use of the single 777 provides both a different expression of Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, but one that has layers of savoury complexity. Macerated cherry sits centre stage, with some sweeter notes of clove in the background, tannins are drying and chalky with grip of blood orange to finish.

A challenging, but undeniably interesting wine.
