2016 Sidewood Estate Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir

This wine was produced from Sidewood’s Oakbank vineyard and is a blend of both Oberlin and Abel clones, the wine was fermented in small batches, some of which were whole bunch. The wine was aged in French oak for 10 months prior to blending and bottling.

This is an elegant and refined example of Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, the region can sometimes lose the varietal prettiness of Pinot Noir, but this has it in spades.

The wine is a light red in the glass, the nose unravels in time with equal measure of exotic red fruits and savoury nuance. In particular primary fruits of red cherry and rhubarb stand out combining with whole bunch characters that give a stemmy but sweet earthiness.

A svelte, medium bodied wine that has a finely threaded core of undergrowth and gentle spice that’s interjected by dark cherry, rhubarb and wild strawberry. There is an attractive tartness to the dark cherry fruit to finish that is wrapped in undergrowth inspired tannins that both give length and an indication this will develop very well in the bottle.
