This is the pick of the 2014 red releases from Yarra Yering and one of the best wines I have had tasted in 2016. The blend pays homage to the Rhone Valley consisting of 96% Shiraz, 2.5% Mataro, 1% Viognier and 0.5% Marsanne.

The wine saw significant whole berry fermentation with stalks added back into the ferment, helping to provide both structure and complex savoury notes. The wine was aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak.

Old vine material, and adept wine making has resulted in a wine with an aromatic yet savoury nose that’s showcases generous black fruits and floral notes at it’s core. On the palate earthy stem characters provide an exciting and textural experience with the concentration of black fruits that combine with leather and spice quite remarkable. The wine keeps building with supporting tannin and textured oak that frame and taper it towards a long and satisfying finish.
