Review Detail
2010 Balnaves of Coonawarra The Blend
Wine Rating
90
A deep red in colour with a youthful purple around the rim, the wine is a Merlot dominant blend (53%) with the balance being Cabernet Sauvignon (37%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
The nose shows good varietal expression of blackberry fruit, with an enjoyable balance between dense dark fruits and coffee oak characters on the palate.
The tannins are fine but drying and there is a solid backbone of acidity that will soften as the wine ages.
It is not often you will get a wine that is sub $20 with excellent cellaring potential, but this is certainly an example.
