Review Detail
2010 Gemtree The Phantom Red Blend II
Wine Rating
94
The 2010 Phantom Red is a Cabernet Franc dominant blend with 50% Cabernet Franc, 25% Mourvedre and 25% Petit Verdot. The wine is a youthful red, with a slight purple hue, the nose is an all out assault on the senses, in a good way; with choc mint characters combining with blackcurrant, bay leaf and sage.
The palate is medium bodied with earthy spices that weave in and out of savoury red and black fruits. The tannins are ripe, but firm, giving texture on the mid to back palate and ensuring a medium to long term cellaring proposition. The finish is long, savoury and dominated by dark chocolate and mint.
