Cabernet Blend November 09, 2013
2010 Yalumba FDR1A Eden Valley Cabernet Shiraz
Wine Rating

95
Yalumba is Australia's oldest family owned winery and has been producing exceptional wines since 1849. The 2010 FRD1A release pays homage to the 1974 vintage of the wine that as the legend goes was a quintessential expression of Cabernet Shiraz that beguiled drinkers over the last 40 years.

Given the pedigree expected from the label the 2010 vintage has a lot to live up to, and it delivers, it's showing quality youthful fruit that one would expect, but it's the layers of savoury complexity and wonderfully ripe tannins that gets me excited about this wines future.

In terms of colour the wine is a deep red with some youthful purple hues towards the rim, the nose balances blackberry and dark cherry with more savoury dusty oak and the slightest touch of mint.

As described earlier the highlight of the wine is the layers of tannins that give a complete mouthfeel and provide the base from which blackberry and mulberry fruits gain a spicy oak lift.

The wine lingers with grainy blackberry and dark cocoa. One for the Cellar.
