Review Detail
2014 The Alchemists Cabernet Merlot
(Updated: May 25, 2017)
Wine Rating
89
The quintessential Margaret River red blend of Cabernet and Merlot, the nose takes a little time to coax out with initial blackcurrant and plum that over time benefit from graphite and mulberry aromatics.
This is an elegant, finely textured wine that is showcased by the tightly woven and savoury tannins that slowly open up to give blackberry and violets. There are touches of chocolate that meld with seemingly more earthen tannin before reaching the finish that is framed by an enjoyable tartness to the blackberry fruit that ensure both balance and length, and makes this a good medium term cellaring prospect.
