Review Detail
2016 Gartelmann Phillip Alexander Cabernet Merlot
Wine Rating
90
Grown at an elevation of 630m, a cool climate cabernet blend that has stretched out with time in the bottle. T
he nose has plum and cassis with some dark chocolate tones and sweeter earth. The palate is deeply concentrated and has a searing baseline of acidity that is somehow integrated but is calling out for a porterhouse steak. The cocoa and earth tones take on a slight bitterness to finish, with blackcurrant the final embellishment.
The wine will cellar for a long time, but has the fruit and acid to carry it.
