1998 Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon

I have had the pleasure of tasting the 98 Wynns a number of times and at a recent tasting had the wine blind twice in the lineup, with marked results between the two bottles with one succumbing to the lottery of cork.

The wine that was showing well was a pleasure and represented a classic wine from a superb vintage.

The nose balanced dusty blackberry and characteristic mint with hauntingly complex cedary notes, the palate is a classical mix of integrated tannins and briary dark fruits that has maintained a full and generous mouth feel.

There is great length to finish, but I did notice the wine began to lose its structure with an hour in the decanter. An indication that now is a great time to drink.
