2011 Forest Hill Block 5 Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine Rating
96
This is an immensely impressive Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from one of the oldest vineyards in Great Southern. The Block 5 is produced from some of the oldest vines on the family owned Forrest Hill vineyard, some of which are over 40 years old, on their own rootstock and unirrigated. There is a reason the wine has so much concentration.
Blackcurrant, blackberry, tobacco, dried herbs and a touch of graphite on the nose. The palate is beautifully ripe but has elegance with a finely woven lattice of tannin and acid that plays second fiddle, but is no less important than the piercing black fruits the define the wine. The finish is starting to show some secondary development with dark chocolate, rosemary and understated cigar box notes adding yet another layer of interest.
This wine stands proudly amidst the top echelon of Australian Cabernets.
