2014 Punt Road Block 3 Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the first single block release of Punt Road Cabernet Sauvignon, it comes from Block 3 which has vines over 30 years of age, it’s part of a new approach for Punt Road with a focus on differentiating fruit within the vineyard and a less is more winemaking style.

Fashion is a fickle thing with Cabernet Sauvignon still looking to return to it’s glory days not only in this country, but in the Yarra Valley. The Yarra Valley is a consistently excellent producer of the variety with densely fruited varietal expressions that evolve beautifully over time, just look at some of the wines from Yarra Yering, Wantirna Estate, Seville Estate, Yeringberg and Mount Mary.

The wine is a youthful dark red with brighter red to purple hues towards the rim, a decidedly dense nose of cassis alongside green peppercorn and earthy aspects.

Dark fruits intertwine on the palate with an undercurrent of olive and touch of dark chocolate. There is a subtle tomato leaf aspect to finish that is wrapped up in elegant blackcurrant fruit.

It’s the wines juicy acidity and textural tannins that underpin the wines ability to grow in stature with time in the cellar.
