2012 Coldstream Hills Deer Farm Chardonnay

This was my pick of all the 2012 wines tasted at Coldstream Hills, the Deer Farm is one of the single vineyard wines produced by the winery and is sourced from the impeccable Deer Farm vineyard in the upper Yarra. The thing that impressed me most about this wine is it’s ability to achieve great concentration, but remain balanced and elegant.

The nose shows gun flint, smokey oak, savoury nectarine skins and a touch of citrus in the background. The wine is layered having concentrated stone fruits on entry with textural wood spice and piercing acidity that frames the mid to back palate.

The wine finishes with an integrated and complete expression of fruit, oak and winemaker derived complexity. This wine will cellar for may years to come.
