Review Detail
1997 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay
Wine Rating
95
What a wonderful example of aged Australian Chardonnay, the cork gods have been kind and delivered a wine that shows outstanding complexity and youthfulness at 16 years of age.
The wine is a golden yellow in colour, with a nose of roasted hazelnut and caramelised peach skins.
The developed palate has creamy peach, cashew nut and melon, with the barrel ferment and bottle age derived complexity being tempered by well integrated acidity.
The finish shows a welcome coarseness, almost grapefruit like that melds with creamy oak characters.
