2007 Yering Station Willow Lake Old Vine Chardonnay
Wine Rating

95
What an amazing wine, if i tried this blind i would have thought it was a current release Chablis that had only just been bottled rather than a 6 year old Australian Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley.

This wine is as close as i have come to a citrus and grapefruit inspired expression of the famed French region and as a wine it really excites me, but would certainly polarise many Australian Chardonnay drinkers.

The wine is a very light yellow in colour and the nose shows citrus zest, grapefruit and suggestion of nectarine.

The palate is lean, mineral and austere, with just enough fruit richness and almond meal complexity hidden somewhere in the background to keep you interested; the acid is steely. This wine will cellar for decades and slowly unravel itself.
