Yal Yal Estate was established in 1997 with all grapes sold prior to 2009 when Sandro Mosel from Kooyong and Port Phillip Estate fame crafter the first vintage of Yal Yal Rd. The partnership of Liz & Simon Gillies produced their own Pinot & Chardonnay in 2010, with this first release an excellent one.
A light golden yellow in colour, the nose shows roasted almonds and gun flint that is backed by nectarine and citrus. The palate is dense and layered with an abundance of leesy richness that is cut through by white peach and just enough citrus to maintain balance and freshness. Almond and nougat frame the finish with precise acid.
The wine is excellent value with a retail price of $27 a bottle you would be hard pressed to find a better buy on the Peninsula.
