Review Detail
2009 Maddens Rise Chardonnay
Wine Rating
91
A little while ago a reviewed a Chardonnay from Yering Station that was about 11.5 % alcohol and showed pristine citrus characters against sherbet like acidity and had only the slightest touch of secondary development. It was a wine that divided opinion, as will the 09 from Maddens Rise, but it is a style that i like and happily champion.
The wine is a light yellow in colour with fresh lime juice and a touch of flinty mineral character on the nose.
The palate is austere with lime juice and lemon zest with just enough secondary complexity and depth of stone fruits to contrast the dominance of citrus and acid.
There is what is best described as piercing acidity to finish with the wine to reward a decade in the cellar.
