Review Detail
2012 Witchmount Estate Olivia’s Paddock Chardonnay
Wine Rating
92
This wine shows a lot of winemaker input, but to great effect. The wine sees 100% new french oak and partial malolactic fermentation that provides spicy rich nuances, however piercing acid and a backbone of citrus result in a balanced and refined wine.
A lightly golden yellow in colour, the nose gives nectarine, gun smoke and wood spice. The palate is layered, creamy vanillin oak softens the entry and adds spice to the fuller stone fruits and fig, I really like the wines texture to finish, it has a full and plush mouthfeel, but enough acid and drive to remain fresh.
