Review Detail
2011 Coldstream Hills Reserve Chardonnay
Wine Rating
96
This wine is only produced in years where the vintage conditions and resultant wine warrant it. Increasingly as time goes on the 2011 vintage will go down as a real struggle for reds but one that produced cellar worthy whites with a mineral purity that is not always seen along the south eastern seaboard.
The nose has beguiling complexity, this is a wine you almost didn't want to drink due to the sheer enjoyment of smelling it. There is flint and wood spice with nectarine skins and white peach on the nose. The palate maintains both depth and elegance with tightly bound nectarine and citrus that benefits from wood spice and nougat complexity. The acidity on the mid to back palate is precise and strips back the wines richness, but maintains enough oak and stone fruit input to remain balanced.
The finish has tremendous length, the 2011 will grow in stature over the next decade.
