Chardonnay September 15, 2014
2011 Yarra Yering Chardonnay
Wine Rating

97
There is a chance I will sound like a broken record when talking about the amazing contrast between 2011 reds and whites in South Eastern Australia. The reds are generally tough going but an increasing number of the whites, especially Chardonnay can be best described as thrilling with the 2011 from Yarra Yering one such example.

The nose is ethereal with layers of stone fruit, gun flint and wood spice that show themselves individually and as a complex collective force.

The palate delivers both elegance and drive with a mineral and citrus core interjected by nectarine, brioche and textual wood spice. The finish shows layered stone fruits and length that rivals the best of chardonnays.

One of the best wine I have tasted from 2011 that has a long future ahead.
