2012 Oakridge 864 Single Block Funder & Diamond Vineyard Chardonnay
(Updated: May 04, 2015)
Wine Rating

97
Oakridge is considered one of the premier Chardonnay producers in Victoria, the 864 range represents the best of the single vineyard wines produced.

The Funder & Diamond vineyard is north facing and 230m above sea level. the vineyard is nearing 30 years of age with the vines close planted. The wine was aged on fermentation lees for 10 months with no malolactic fermentation, seeing 30% new oak.The resultant wine is spectacular, with a nose of peach skins, wood smoke and flint.

The palate is exceptional, it builds in structure and texture like a great pinot does, revealing layers of fruit and adept winemaker influences. The acidity that runs through the wine is powdery and laden with citrus keeping the wine balanced and focussed. In terms of fruit white peach is perfectly matched with lemon / lime characters, the oak adds another dimension of texture and spice.

A compelling drink now, this will only get better over over the medium term.
