Review Detail
2012 Punt Road Chemin Chardonnay
Wine Rating
94
The 2012 Chemin Chardonnay is taken from the oldest Chardonnay vines at Punt Road that were planted in the late 80's. Two thirds of the harvest was whole bunched pressed to barrel and aged on lees for 6 months, with the other third going through wild yeast ferment and left on skins for 6 days prior to being aged in barrel.
The resulting wine is complex and benefits from the array of winemaking techniques used. The wine is a light yellow in colour with a flinty nose of peach skins and nectarine fruit.
The wine builds well in the mouth with good drive and depth of stone fruits with gentle spice adding character on the mid palate, to finish there is a broad stroke of stone fruits, wood smoke and powdery acidity. Very good length
