Review Detail
2014 Shaw & Smith M3 Chardonnay
Wine Rating
96
This wine is sourced from the Estate M3 vineyard, and a select number of vineyard blocks in the Adelaide Hills. The wine is wild yeast fermented in new and used french oak, undergoes partial malo and lees stirring during it’s 9 months in barrel.
The wine is a light yellow in the glass with a fleck of green in the light, the nose showcases quality fruit and considered winemaking technique with a worked, sulphide funk against pristine white peach and attractive vanillin oak.
There is nervy acidity and textural grapefruit influence across the palate that complements the tightly bound nectarine and peach. There is good mouthfeel to finish and a savoury aspect to stone fruits that lingers.
This M3 is a consistently good wine, the 14 release is exceptional.
