2014 Moss Wood Chardonnay
Wine Rating

96
Margaret River Chardonnay can do little wrong at the moment, with the wonderfully complex Moss Wood Chardonnay rightfully sitting in the top echelon of Chardonnay producers in the region.

The fruit for the wine comes from 5 different Chardonnay blocks with the wine having partial barrel fermentation and extended ageing in French oak barrels (43% new) for 20 months prior to light fining and filtration.

A lightly golden yellow in the glass with a truly complex nose of struck match, nougat, peach and lemon pith. The wine has exceptional structure which gives the perfect foundation to build a complex and compelling experience. There is a mealy creaminess on entry that moves towards fig and stone fruit on the mid to back palate, the wine gives attractive wood spice and nutty aspect to stone fruits on the long finish. A classic example of the variety and class of the winemaker and region.
