2013 Cobaw Ridge Chardonnay
Wine Rating

93
Cobaw Ridge were part of the vanguard of Macedon Ranges wineries having been established in 1985 on a site that had previously been overlooked for agriculture ventures. Alan and Nelly Cooper have worked tirelessly over many years to craft meaningful and unique expressions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and most notably the Italian variety Lagrein. They achieved bio-dynamic certification in 2011, with attentive viticulture practices undoubtedly showing across their full range of wines. They also offer one of the most intimate and knowledgeable cellar door experiences i have enjoyed for a long time.

The 2013 Chardonnay is both expressive and elegant with the wine held back for a number of years prior to release, something that is done across the range at Cobaw Ridge.

The wine is a gentle yellow in the glass with worked characters of gun flint that fall in behind stone fruits, fig and green melon, the oak inputs are secondary but give definition.

The palate has tremendous balance that is built on a fine filament of citrus acidity that runs from start to finish, baked apple and nectarine fill out the palate with enough mealy complexity to add contrast and texture. The wine finishes with great length and will continue to evolve over the medium term.
