Chardonnay April 26, 2016
2011 Circe Hillcrest Road Chardonnay
Wine Rating

94

Circe is a partnership between Dan Buckle and Aaron Drummond, they craft some exceptional wines from Mornington Peninsula. The Hillcrest Road Chardonnay a triumph of the '11 vintage and still going strong 5 years on with no sign of abating.

A light yellow in the glass, there is a restrained and elegant nose of nectarine, slate and flint. The palate has a nervy and crystalline edge that is the hallmark of 2011 whites, powdery citrus underwrites richer stone fruits and french oak spice, there is a pleasing fullness to the wine on the mid to back palate that gives almond meal complexity and a touch of grapefruit astringency. The wine has drying nectarine skins and lemon curd to finish. This will live for a very long time.
