Review Detail
2012 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay
Wine Rating
95
The Art Series Chardonnay has been an icon of Australian wine for over three decades, i fondly remember tasting the 1987 twenty five years after its release and even though fully mature was one of my great wine experiences. The winemaking style has evolved over time with newer releases seeing less or no malo, but the wines have remained consistently excellent.
The 2012 continues a run of great vintages in Western Australia, the wine saw 100% new French oak, that merely became a part of the wines complex character rather than a prominent aspect. The nose provides a flinty expression of nectarine and wood smoke, the palate reveals layers of spice intermingled with stone fruits and a mouthfeel that only comes from great expressions of Chardonnay; complex and deep yet at the same time having a lightness and fluidity across the palate. A complete wine in every sense of the word that will cellar effortlessly.
