Review Detail
2013 Oakridge 864 Funder & Diamond Vineyard Drive Block Chardonnay
Wine Rating
96
David Bicknell is a Chardonnay master, with a line of consistency through all the wines produced at Oakridge, there is a ‘less is more’ approach with wines that showcase fruit first with subtle winemaker influences and a typical crystalline lattice of acidity that ensures wines that are long living, with a slow but continual evolution.
The 864 wines showcase the best single vineyard wines of vintage and are release across most varieties in the Oakridge portfolio.
The 2013 is a good follow up to the exceptional 2012 release, in terms of colour the wine is light to straw yellow with a nectarine focused nose that is lifted with floral notes and wood / gun smoke.
Green fig and nectarine frame the palate, oscillating around spicy french oak inputs and a finely filamented frame of citrus acidity, there is a drying and concentrated mouthfeel with considerable length of white peach with a savoury edge to finish.
