Review Detail
2015 Wilimee Chardonnay
Wine Rating
96
There is something special about this, it was produced from some of the older vines in the Macedon Ranges that were planted in 1982, and when talking to winemaker Ben Ranken about his passion for this site and less about what he does to the grapes i may have had pre-defined expectations.
A light straw yellow in the glass, the nose gives nectarine and underripe fig with touches of oyster shell. The palate is awash with flint and oak induced spice that is matched by balanced acidity and well proportioned stone fruits with a finish that provides textural mealy notes.
This wine is a combination of elegance and flair, something that is about as hard to get right in wine as it is in life !
This is only the first release.
