Review Detail
2010 Toolangi Reserve Chardonnay
Wine Rating
95
Produced by Rick Kinzbrunner who crafts arguably Australia's greatest Chardonnay's at Giaconda in Gippsland. The wine was fermented in French oak, no doubt a high proportion was new prior to ageing for 18 months. The wine gives a nod to the maker style as much as the vineyard and together delivers an impeccable Chardonnay.
A lightly golden yellow in the glass, nectarine and wood smoke define the nose with a touch of lees funk for good measure. The palate is plush and approachable having benefited from a number of years in bottle, there is a lemon curd and citrus character that cuts through the wine with flinty peach filling out the palate and oak induced drying tannins to finish.
Under screw cap this wine will live for a number of years.
