2014 Lane’s End Chardonnay
Wine Rating

96
Lane’s End is one of Macedon Ranges best kept secret, with their Chardonnay in particular a consistent standout.

A lightly golden yellow in the glass, the nose unravels more each time you take a look, it starts with green fig and peach before showing leesy, almost flinty notes from time in new french oak and on solids.

It’s worth noting that the wine is only 12.8%, showcasing cool climate viticulture and winemaking at it’s best. This lower alcohol gives the wine a finely textured and embellished backbone with a lovely mineral acidity that derives elegance and subtlety when contrasted by the fruit and winemaker induced notes of the wine.

In terms of fruit, white peach and understated nectarine are on show with gentle wood spice and flint that join together on the long finish. This will live a long time and great value at the price.
