Review Detail
2015 Shadowfax Glenfern Chardonnay
Wine Rating
96
The Single Vineyard wines coming out from Shadowfax, especially from sites in the Macedon Ranges are taking what is one of the most consistent producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to another level.
The wine was fermented in old French oak hogsheads and remained on gross lees for 10 months prior to bottling, highlighting the quality of fruit and complexity that can be induced by some clever winemaking as opposed to relying on oak for complexity. The nose shows much of the lees induced complexity with a touch of funk to stone fruits, and background citrus. The wine has exceptional mouthfeel with a fullness in the mouth but retaining a lightness on it’s feet through mineral acidity and it's citrus inspired core. The finish has plenty of fruit that combines with almond meal and flint.
This will live for a while, watch it evolve.
