2017 Byrne Coghills Creek Myola Vineyard
Wine Rating

96
The last time I tasted Alex Byrne’s wines was in 2013 and it was the 2012 Ballarat Chardonnay. Five years on it was time to look at the 2017 Ballarat Chardonnay sourced from the Myola Vineyard in Coghills Creek. The 2017 is a classic release with the push and pull of fruit, oak and acidity an exercise in elegance.

The wine was wild yeast fermented and aged in French oak. A lightly golden hue in the glass the nose enjoys top notes of white peach with wood smoke and flashes of flint. The palate is a beautiful assemblage of stone fruits that is given a creamy, brioche like richness that’s cut through by a mineral citrus and green apple like acidity. The finish has good palate weight a gentle mealy note.

I think i’m already in love with 2017.
