Review Detail
2015 Geoff Merrill Reserve Chardonnay
Wine Rating
90
In a world of linear and lean this is big and bold. A selection of the best barrels from a blend of McLaren Vale and Coonawarra fruit that was bottled after 10 months, but aged in bottle prior to release.
A light golden yellow the nose shows breadth of stone fruits and new season fig alongside generous wood smoke and flint aromatics that come from quality new oak.
A wine with good balance, fruit and oak have impact but the filiments of citrus inspired acidity that coarse through the wine give it both energy and structure. The finish has the defined oak induced spice with white peach and understated tropical notes driving through to finish.
A wine that is unabashedly decadent and will have a legion of fans.
