2019 Giant Steps Applejack Chardonnay
Wine Rating

96
The Applejack Vineyard was planted in the Upper Yarra at an elevation of 220 - 320 meters with the cool site producing pure and age worthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The wine was fermented using indigenous yeast and aged in a combination of new (20%) and older French oak for 10 months with no malolactic fermentation or batonage.

The wine has only just been released and is a benchmark example of Yarra Chardonnay with all the constituent parts to grow in bottle into something very special.

A youthful light yellow in the glass with the nose giving finely etched white peach, background flint and the faintest impact of oak. The palate has tension with a citrus thread to new season nectarine and peach; there is build of understated fig and almond meal on the mid palate before the finish is framed by mineral acidity and piercingly pure nectarine that is laced with white grapefruit.
