Yarra Valley Cabernet has seemingly fallen from grace in the last decade, which is something the consistently mystifies me.
The 2010 Squitchy lane is a ~$30 wine that punches well above it's price tag and reminds you why Cabernet Sauvignon should not be a forgotten variety of the Yarra Valley.
The wine is a deep dark red in colour and shows varietal blackberry and plum with nuances of cedar and olive on the nose.
The palate is precise and layered, the tannins are ripe and textural, with the blackberry and blackcurrant fruit soaking up and integrating with spicy vanillin oak effortlessly.
Will greatly reward medium term cellaring.
