The previous release of the Black Bull was 2014, and it was an impressive package both in terms of the bottle and it's contents. The 2016 comes with the same striking label and is good follow up, but doesn't quite hit the same high notes as the impressive 2014 vintage.
A deep red in the glass with a herbaceous rendition of blackberry and plum fruit on the nose with a touch of cedar oak for good measure.
The wine is medium bodied with a firm line of both tannin and acid that will underwrite future development. There is a density of blackberry fruit on the palate that is lifted by dark chocolate and a savoury thread. The finish is long and dominated by black fruits.
A wine that will certainly enjoy a bit of time in the cellar.
