This wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet from the Castello Di Gabbiano which is one of the largest estates in Chianti Classico at just under 140 hectares. The wine shows new and old world winemaking influences to craft an exceptionally drinkable wine.
In terms of colour the wine is medium red that is slightly dull towards the rim, the nose takes some time to understand and appreciate with an initial big hit of coconut oak underneath which lies fragrant dark cherry and plum that is accentuated by star anise.
The palate is has great texture, the tannins are very fine yet have enough structure to give balance to the wines richer oak influences. The fruit weight on the palate is very good with up front blackberry and plum tapering and becoming more savoury, the finish benefits from this savouriness and drying tannins that keep inviting you to have another sip.
