Mataro or Mourvedre is often part of a blend, but as a single varietal there is a consistency across regions with an underlying brooding nature to the wine, but at the same time exhibits elements of plush blue fruits.
On the nose aromatic plum with floral notes is supported by leather. Plum, blueberry and a sheath of oak induced richness meet on the palate before the wine begins a subtle journey to the savoury side as drying and leathery tannins take hold on the mid to back palate. The wine finishes with a sea of blue fruits amongst slate and iodine, enjoyable now but will reward time in the cellar.
