Cabernet Franc is more often part of a blend than a single varietal release in Australia, however the grape can provide such a compelling spectrum of flavours, a characteristic found in this release from Terre a Terre.
The wine was sourced from the close planted Crayers Vineyard in Wrattonbully, the majority of the wine was wild yeast fermented, with the inclusion of 20% stalks before being pressed to French oak for 22 months (25% new).
The nose gives aromatic plum and blackberry fruit with a weave of potpourris like spice and subtle old leather influences.
The wine is medium bodied with great balance. Tightly bound plum and boysenberry are bound by tight grain oak that gives layers of spice and suggestion of dark chocolate. An enjoyable earthen aspect works well with drying dark fruits that provide a satisfyingly savory finish. Touches of cigar box and leather linger and will continue to come into their own with more time in the bottle.
