There is something about the cork in old burgundy wines that highlights the difference in quality compared to the cork in some older Australian wines. This example had a cork that was more like a 5 year old wine, let alone one nearing it's 27th birthday.
The wine is a delicate light to brick red in colour, with excellent clarity.
The nose has developed complexity with earthy cherry and damp earth; there is a hint of orange peel in the background.
There is a similar savoriness to the nose on the palate, with caramelised cherry characters giving an ever so slight richness.
The tannins build in depth across the palate and provide great structure, with the finish having considerable length of damp earth and wild cherries.
It is always a pleasure to drink a wine that is in fantastic condition after a quarter of a century.
