I was curious about this wine, Moorilla Estate is one of my favourite Tasmanaian producers and given Tassie's aptitude to age i was keen to see what a reserve release would offer with 13 years under it's belt. It was no surprise that it was impressive.
The wine is a decidedly deep red in colour given the variety and age with a slightly duller hue towards the rim. The nose has plenty of stem influences along with dark cherry, subtle cloves and wood spices.
The layered palate has savoury complexity of tomato leaf, tobacco and smokey oak with just enough fruit richness, there are ample tannins and the wine finishes with balanced forest floor characters of earthy dark cherry and stem.
