2005 was a great vintage for Tasmanian Pinot, so i was excited to try a wine from an iconic small producer with a few years of age.
The wine was a glossy dark red which was unexpected for a Pinot, the nose was slightly reductive with liquorice all sorts along with some savoury edged cherry fruit and crushed dried herbs.
On entry there is ample plum and cherry fruit, however a slight gap on mid palate, the wine shows the impact of quality vanillin oak towards the finish that supports drying tannins and red berry fruits. The wines texture to finish is pleasing with a minerality that gives it good mouthfeel and accentuates the wines length.
