The 2010 Bass Phillip Estate release is a step up from the Crown Prince, and reminds you why Bass Phillip is revered around Australian and the world.
The wine is a medium red in colour for a Pinot, the highlight is it's structure and framing use of oak. There is something new each time you visit this wine, one smell would show floral cherry, the next a meaty, smokey undertone. The palate is layered with spiced cherry, earth and stem combining to provide waves of interest across the plate. It finishes with a hauntingly complex array of flavours ranging from spices to forrest floor.
This one will go down as a classic.
