The Hospices de Beaune is a former charitable almshouse in Beaune, France. It was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of Burgundy, as a hospital for the poor, each year 31 wines are auctioned, with this cuvee purchased by Maison Champy for Vintage Cellars in Australia.

A vibrant red in colour, with a wonderful nose of spiced red cherry and a purity of fruit that is somewhat atypical for young Burgundy, however there is still background stalky notes that will become more accentuated over time.

The palate shows minerality but plenty of upfront fruit; bright cherry and stem benefit from oak that adds both baking spices and a roundness to the already plush palate.

The finish has good length, and will greatly reward time in the cellar.
