Established in 1982 Austins & Co has one of the largest vineyard holdings in the region, the winery produces Six ft Six, Greenback and the flagship Austins range. The wines are expertly crafted by Scott Ireland.
The wine is produced from fruit that was de-stemmed before undergoing whole berry fermentation, and nine months in french oak, 25% of which is new.
The wine has an attractive nose, it gives sweet cinnamon spice alongside dark cherry, plum and undergrowth, give it time and it continues to evolve. The structure of the palate is appealing with tightly bound cherry and plum on entry that is well supported by tight grained oak that provides savoury spice. Fleshy red fruits with cherry at the fore frame the mid to back, there is enough sappy tannin and savoury spice to provide balance.
Good length to finish, this is a wine that will reward time in the cellar.
