Henty as a wine region is very underrated in my opinion. It can produce some of the most beguiling and long living wines in Victoria, whether it be Chardonnay, Riesling, Shiraz or in this case Pinot Noir.
The 2012 Seppelt Drumborg Pinot Noir is sourced from the Drumborg vineyard planted in 1964, and is a wine worthy of flagship status.
The wine shows a medium red garnet in colour, with the nose having an array of aromas, starting with savoury coffee and stem that is replaced by red cherry, sweet cinnamon spices and forest floor over time.
The palate is equally compelling in terms of it's complexity and sheer quality. Savoury cherry and plum is given richness from chocolate vanillin oak on the mid palate, with savoury spicy tannins returning on the mid to back palate.
The wine finishes with sappy, drying tannins, taut acidity and lovely spices that underwrite long term cellaring.
